Pescawa

Pacific NW Troller, “Pescawa”; Picture taken from Emerald Marine website quoted in post.

My wife is nothing if not a keen internet searcher and quite often goes mooching about in the websites where news is commented upon and, in particular, picked up if it is a bit quirky or funny. Yesterday she was on a website called BroadSheet.ie and came upon a delightful bit of video and story which we both thought you might like. It is basically the story of a soft-spoken Canadian shipwright who is restoring a old wooden boat of the type Pacific Northwest Troller. You get almost 7 minutes of shipwright Andy Smith working away at caulking, shaping wood, doing bits of shipwrightery and expounding a gentle philosphy on how he got into the trade and how he works. It is delightful magic!

The video is on

and there is a lot more detail on the boat (Pescawa) and its history, with some excellent pictures, on
