Dublin Tall Ships 2012

If you’ve been anywhere near Dublin, or read my posts from a while back,  you’ll already know that this weekend has been the Dublin Tall Ships festival. It’s been hugely popular and the traffic has been described on Irish Station Today FM as “mental”, which is possibly a bit more ‘colourful’ than the language BBC Radio would choose! Some events in the Festival even had to be cancelled because of the press of bodies, with 200,000 people on the quayside at one stage according to Garda (Police) estimates. The ships are now starting to depart down through the Dublin Harbour, Liffey mouth and then Dublin Bay so there are still chances to see them off round to tomorrow from about 11:00 am.

There was a fine Parade of Sail today looping round Dublin Bay, south to Dun Laoghaire and north as far as Howth Head. There were live bands, shows of all sorts from archery to stunt biking, ‘spoken word’ (story telling) shows, films, street festival stuff, carnival, shows of the boats all lit up at night, parades of Crew marching and parade bands etc, even dry-slope ‘snow-boarding’. It was truly massive.
