A visit from the RAF

RAF chopper

RAF chopper performs practice ‘winch down’ landing man on Cambria’s deck off Harwich. Photo by Sea Change.

These eye catching pictures popped up on Sea Change’s newsfeed within ‘Facebook’ so of course I had to find out more from Hilary Halajko, First Mate and writer of “Cambria Watch” pieces for us. Hilary says “we were sailing from Harwich and the air sea rescue helicopter asked if they could do a practice and send the winch man down to our deck. it was great fun and we were very impressed with their amazing accuracy. Then when the winch man removed his helmet he turned out to be very handsome but like policeman these days looked far too young for such responsibilities!!!” Manna from Heaven, Hilary?

Dean up the Topmast

Meanwhile all is quiet on the Cambria if the lack of “Cambria Watch” reports is anything to go by and this has given the Sea Change Team a chance to send one of the lads (Dean) up to the top of the topmast. He has supplied this dramatic picture which Hilary has captioned “Dean at the top of the topmast oiling squeaky blocks!” Fair play, Dean! I’ve only ever been as far as the hounds, but we were motoring along at the time, in the 2011 Swale Match so that was far enough.

Ye Olde Albion Pub

Today’s “Cambria Watch” posting from Hilary Halajko has “all went well with the beer delivery to ‘Ye Olde Albion Pub’ at Rowhedge. They are leaving at highwater tonight and will night sail to Harwich arriving early morning sunrise.” The pub seems like a nice place, with a very pretty website at http://www.google.ie/search?rlz=1C1DVCH_enGB423&aq=f&sugexp=chrome,mod=13&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=Ye+Olde+Albion+Pub+Rowhedge

as well as a Facebook presence. Rowhedge is part of Colchester and the pub, as well as being on the River Colne, is on the High Street at High Street  Colchester, Essex CO5 7ES, United Kingdom
